Panzer Dragoon Zwei Remake Demo Drops on Steam

The above video was posted to YouTube shortly before patch v1.0.3 was released.

Forever Entertainment released a free playable demo of Panzer Dragoon Zwei: Remake . The demo is their rendition of the Episode 2 level, from the start to its boss fight. Players can chose the new arrangement of its soundtrack or the original songs heard on Saturn. Up to two dragon evolutions are present. A few changes to the graphics settings are available.

Recommended specs listed on its Steam page are well under the standards for gaming capable PCs in 2026, so playing this at its highest settings should be widely accessible. As such, this looks like a game that came out more than 10 years ago. That said, many changes have been made to this demo since gameplay footage was shown publicly at the Tokyo Game Show last September.

The color palette on both Lagi and the environments have changed significantly, now a closer match to the Saturn original. Its camera is now closer to the dragon and the movements of Lagi appear faster.

While playing the remake, we noticed issues with input delay and hit detection. Lock-on shots have a hard time connecting, especially in the boss fight. These issues were tweaked throughout multiple patches released for the demo.

SHIRO! pointed out a big discrepancy with camera rotation speed in the Tokyo Game Show footage. It now appears to be sped up. Approximate timings for a quarter camera rotation are as follows:

  • Sega Saturn — 0.28 sec
  • TGS Footage — 0.83 sec
  • Demo v1.0.2 — 0.36 sec

The leaps off cliffs lack the majesty felt on the Saturn original. On Saturn hardware, Team Andromeda made use of VDP2 to generate “infinite plain” ground, skies, mist, etc. Combined with some forced perspective, this gave off the impression of extreme height in the second level of Panzer Dragoon II Zwei . While the remake is able to render more pieces of the environment in real time, it struggles to give off the same feeling of incredibly high flight.

Sound mixing is problematic. Enemies that are far away will sound like they are much closer.

This demo manages to run at more than 60 frames per second on its maximum graphics settings using a graphics card that only has six gigabytes of VRAM.

Forever Entertainment is listening to feedback by way of its Discord server . They have released at least three patches for the demo within its first week.
