Mobile Suit Gundam #BestOfSaturnNote: The #BestOfSaturn posts will be a little bit different for 2026. I won’t cover any original retail games, and that means pausing the Gold and Silver as well. Instead, ALL of the 2026 #BestOfSaturn posts will feature fan translated Saturn games. I do a post every Wednesday as you know, and I already don’t have enough weeks in 2026 to cover all of the finished translations that have come out… how awesome is that? Anyways, I thought I’d use the platform to highlight the efforts of the magnificent Saturn community, and all the games that are no longer locked behind a language barrier thanks to their efforts. Regular programming will resume in 2027. A Bandai Japan-only December 1995 release, Mobile Suit Gundam is the first of many games to hit the Saturn based on the 1979 anime hit. The game is a 2D blend of run-and-gun and hack-n-slash, and features a mix of sprites, still and FMV backgrounds, and anime stills and cutscenes. Take on the role of 15-year-old Amuro Ray and pilot the massive Gundam robot as you and the Earth Federation do battle against the evil Principality of Zeon and their advanced mechs, known as Mobile Suits. The gameplay is tried and true, and levels alternate between on-ground and in-space battles, but where this game shines is in the presentation and in staying faithful to the source material. Gundam fans are well catered to here, and the game can now be fully enjoyed in English! All text and menus have been translated, and the anime scenes have been subbed to preserve the excellent original voice acting. Additional improvements include a cheat menu accessible by pressing X on the title screen, and improved quality FMV clips ported over from a PS2 Gundam game. Mobile Suit Gundam English translation by Shadowmask and team, released February 2025.
