English Translation Patch for Airs Adventure Is Complete!

Airs Adventure, an “it’s so bad it’s good” Sega Saturn RPG exclusive to Japan, now has an English translation patch thanks to a team of fans.

SnowyAria, who translated the script, announced the patch’s completion today on Bluesky and posted a trailer for it. It can be downloaded from patch hacker Hitomi2500’s GitHub for the project — click the ZIP file link at the bottom of the page.

The ZIP file contains readme as well as two XDelta patches and a CUE file. The readme explains that there are two possible rips of Airs Adventure — one of them has the whole game in one BIN file, while the other rip uses a CUE and separates the audio track into a second BIN. Use the appropriate XDelta patch depending on which rip you have, and use the included CUE file if your rip contains the whole game in one BIN.

Any XDelta patcher can be used, including online ones . Check the readme file for more detailed instructions on the patching process.

In addition to SnowyAria translating and Hitomi2500 hacking, NicheTopic worked on image editing and Blueskyrunner did quality assurance checks (and apparently also provided moral support).

NicheTopic expressed their excitement on Bluesky , saying, “Rather than just Aria and I this time, Hitomi and Sky had done intense hacking work as well as great … QA respectively to make sure this reached what we could max out of its ‘frame.’ Check this one out, the Saturn’s a great console and the team was amazing!”

The English translation project began in March this year, as SHIRO! reported at the time.

Airs Adventure is a turn-based RPG developed and published by GAME STUDIO Inc. and released in December 1996. It follows a knight who is about to be executed but is stopped at the last moment by a princess, and his new mission is to find out the truth about why he was sentenced to death.

It’s considered a “kusoge,” a Japanese term for a shitty game, because of its simplistic combat and silly storyline. SnowyAria herself called it “a beautiful adventure full of nonsense.”

As one person on Bluesky said about Airs Adventure, “There’s many things you can say about Airs Adventure, but in the end none of them so constantly bust out lines like this (editor’s note: see below) or have an important subplot about horse constipation.”

		Danthrax is a member of the SHIRO! Media Group, writing stories for the website when Saturn news breaks and helping to manage the group's social media accounts. While he was a Sega Genesis kid in the '90s, he didn't get a Saturn until 2018. It didn't take him long to fall in love with the console's library as well as the fan translation and homebrew scene.
