New Bubble Bobble to Include Saturn Port of Bubble SymphonyAnother Sega Saturn game is getting re-released on modern platforms — and this time, it’s bundled with a new entry in its series. Taito announced Tuesday that Bubble Bobble: Sugar Dungeons , the new title in the Bubble Bobble series coming this fall, will include a console port version of Bubble Symphony. The game’s Western publisher Arc System Works posted in English that Sugar Dungeons would “include a bundled title Bubble Symphony, a port from the 1997 home console release.” The only 1997 home console release of Bubble Symphony was on the Saturn, on which Ving published it in Japan. PAYONPA!
The Sugar Dungeons official website published several screenshots of Bubble Symphony with Bubble Bobble-themed borders and an “Options” user interface that looks very similar to the appearance of City Connection’s Saturn Tribute games, which run on a modified version of the SSF Saturn emulator. There’s no official confirmation of a link between the two — although several of Taito’s Saturn games were re-released by City Connection, including Layer Section/Galactic Attack, Elevator Action Returns, Cleopatra Fortune, Puzzle Bobble 2X & 3 and Metal Black. On the left are Bubble Symphony screenshots that Taito and Arc System Works published this week. On the right are screenshots from Saturn Tribute releases Steam Heart’s and Assault Suit Leynos 2. Along with announcing Bubble Symphony’s inclusion, Taito and Arc System Works gave new information Tuesday about Sugar Dungeons’ release date — Nov. 27 — and its platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The Steam page is already live. It’s probably no coincidence that Nov. 27 is the same date as Bubble Symphony’s Saturn release date 28 years ago in 1997. Physical copies of the game on Switch and PS5 can be preordered from Arc System Works’ website where they cost US$39.99. Taito and Arc System Works first announced Bubble Bobble: Sugar Dungeons in late June with a trailer. Bubble Symphony was originally an arcade game made in 1994. The Saturn port faithfully reproduces it but adds quite a few cheat codes , including one that adds a new menu option where the language can be changed to English.
