Mario Kart 64 Released on Dreamcast!

Yep, you heard that right! You can now play Mario Kart 64 on the SEGA Dreamcast! It’s thanks to jnmartin84, who’s already worked on ports of Doom 64 and Wipeout .

We took a look through of the released version, it plays and looks amazing for the most part. There are a few glitches and some slowdown here and there, but take note that this is only an initial release — the project is still being worked on. Eventually the bugs and issues will be sorted out, and it’s shaping up to be a really cool what-if.

Below is our playthrough of the current release:

Going back to June 2025, Falco Girgis announced that jnmartin84 has begun the work on porting Mario Kart 64 to the Dreamcast:

FINALLY time for the big announcement everyone has been begging and waiting for… Here's a VERY EARLY direct hardware capture of Mario Kart 64… RUNNING ON THE SEGA DREAMCAST, of course!

This game was literally just BARELY decompiled the other day, with a codebase that is… pic.twitter.com/h76glP2QGu

While it was missing graphical sprites and, most importantly, audio, and still had a ways to go, the fact it was running at all on Dreamcast was amazing. The PC port of Mario Kart 64, SpaghettiKart , required a whole team to get working, while jnmartin84 was essentially at that point porting it himself.

Our own SEGAGuys covered the amazing work of porting Mario Kart 64 to the Dreamcast back in June:

The idea of a Mario game on a SEGA console is preposterous, but thanks to the effort of jnmartin84, Falco Girgis, and the rest of the team, Mario Kart 64 makes this a new reality!
