X-MEN Arcade Recreated on SEGA SaturnOn the 3rd of January, hotrodx , long time member of the SegaXtreme & SGDK communities, posted a little DEMO for a homebrew recreation of Konami’s 1992 X-MEN Arcade, which they are apparently working on and planning to finish/release. While the original arcade board was basically based on a beefed up version of the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis, this reconstruction essentially seeks to rebuild the game using SGL (Sega Graphics Library) and the original game art assets. Included in the menu is this message from the developer: This is an attempt to recreate the hit Konami arcade game. No source code from the original game was involved, so a lot of guesswork and approximations were implemented. It’s also very buggy.
At it’s current stage, it consists of just the first level and two selectable characters. The footage shown was captured using the Mednafen emulator
(which hotrodx recommends when it comes to emulation)
.
However, we’ve had folks (in addition to ourselves) test it on real hardware using Fenrir & Satiator, as well as through emulation on SSF, and it seems to work just fine on all of these. Credits:
SHIRO! will, of course, keep following this project as more updates come down the pipe! In the meantime, here’s a vid from our friend The SEGAGuys with a quick look at the demo… |
