New Firmware Updates for Fenrir, SAROOTwo Sega Saturn optical drive emulators got firmware updates over the weekend: the Fenrir and the SAROO. The Fenrir firmware, available on the official website , is specifically for the Lite model. It fixes bugs that prevented Fenrir Loader Kai , a version of PseudoSaturn Kai specific to the ODE, from loading games. It also fixed a problem with the B button working in the file browser. The Fenrir Lite debuted in August and last got a firmware update three months ago . But ever since then, some users in the device’s official Discord server reported being unable to load games from the SD card using Fenrir Loader Kai. The Fenrir’s creator, Ced, posted an initial fix Friday evening in his Discord, then worked with Fenrir users to make tweaks until he was satisfied enough to make it a new stable release Sunday morning. TPUnix releases SAROO new firmware updateMeanwhile, the SAROO got a firmware update Saturday morning from its creator, TPUnix. Version 0.8 is available from TPUnix’s GitHub . Its patch notes are as follows, via DeepL machine translation from the original Chinese:
TPUnix’s frequent collaborator TZMWX announced version 0.8 on X. In that post, they warned that TPUnix’s firmware and the firmware that SAROO tester YZB put out in September and updated last week are different, and cross-using them may cause errors. TPUSAROO Firm v0.8Ver.20251206
It’s unclear whether TPUnix used any of YZB’s input for the newly added CD+G support or if they created that separately. This is TPUnix’s first firmware update since December last year when they added the ability to display game cover art, functionality for running burned physical discs, additional languages in the SAROO menu and other improvements.
