Virtua Racing Revving Up for November’s Community Challenge

This November, the SHIRO! Community Challenge will be none other than Time Warner Interactive’s VR Virtua Racing . Although popular in the arcades and on Genesis, the exclusive Saturn enhanced version doesn’t get much love, and it’s T ime Warner we change that!

There will be four categories for the monthlong challenge, plus four weekly fastest laps, for a total of eight magnet prizes, which are designed by Random this time and manufactured by Xiden . Also, there will be a special T-shirt for the winner of “ A Season to Remember ,” which is the lowest combined total time of all ten GP tracks.

RULES:

• NO CHEATING .
• NTSC versions on 60 Hz Sega Saturn hardware only.
• To submit your score, post your gameover or leaderboard photo on the SHIRO! Community Challenge Discord channel and complete this form . You can view everybody’s times on the spreadsheet here . Links to both the form and spreadsheet will also be pinned to the top of the Discord channel.
• Videos and online submissions to Speedrun.com are encouraged.

ALL MONTH LONG:

• Arcade Racer — Fastest total time in all 3 arcade mode tracks.
• A Season to Remember — Fastest total time for all 10 tracks in GP mode with any car ( F-200 does not count ).
• Pathway to Number 6 — First person to unlock F-200 Supercar legitimately (requires completing GP mode with all five cars).
• Ace Driver — Fastest time on BAY BRIDGE in PRACTICE MODE , ACE DIFFICULTY , 10 LAP and GRAND PRIX DRONES with ANY CAR , including the F-200 . Good luck! (Video recording encouraged.)

WEEKLY FASTEST LAP CHALLENGES:
*Practice mode allowed

• LAP 1 (Nov 1-7): Surfers Speedway Road — Go Kart
• LAP 2 (Nov 8-14): Diablo Canyon — Coupe
• LAP 3 (Nov 15-21): Metropolis — F-160
• FINAL LAP (Nov 22-30): Pacific Coast — Proto

Participants are asked to start with a fresh save file . Any car is allowed in the GP “ A Season To Remember ” mode, but you start with the Go Kart and need to work your way up to the Proto if you want to compete with the fastest car. The F-200 isn’t allowed for this category, but a prize will go to the first participant who unlocks it legitimately (which requires getting 1st in GP mode with all the other cars). You are, however, allowed to use the F-200 in the difficult “ Ace Driver ” category.

We’ll also have weekly fastest lap challenges , with each week featuring a different course and car. Practice mode with drone cars off is recommended. We’ll be kicking things off with Go Karts on Surfers Speedway Road , and working our way up to the more difficult Pacific Coast with the Proto car by the final week.
