Taki Udon’s SuperStation One Dock Will Support Saturn Disc LoadingTaki Udon, known for the MiSTer Pi and the upcoming SuperStation One , announced Wednesday that their FPGA devices support loading Sega Saturn discs with the SuperDock add-on. Added preliminary support for loading Sega Saturn games from disk without dumping on SuperStation. It needs some additional work to make it more seamless. PC-Engine CD is next. — Taki Udon (@takiudon.bsky.social) 2025-08-07T01:42:40.062ZThe Saturn support comes just a few days after they implemented SEGA CD and PC Engine CD reading as well. For those of you out of the know, the MiSTer Pi and SuperStation One are FPGA-based devices that allow one to play hardware emulated systems such as the PlayStation 1, SEGA CD, SEGA Saturn, and various other retro systems. The SuperStation One in particular is a console-esque design that supports not only original PS1 controllers and memory cards but also, with the SuperDock add-on, the ability to read from original discs themselves. Introducing the SuperStation one. An open-source PS1 FPGA gaming console that supports original games, memory cards, and controllers. Load games from a disk or a backup. Region free. Supports all MiSTer FPGA cores, including N64 & Sega Saturn.
While the intention is for PS1 discs, Taki Udon has begun implementing it for not only the SEGA CD, and PC Engine, but the Saturn MiSTer core . Doing some testing of SS1 reading PS1 data directly from a disk without dumping the data first. It’s much better than I expected. That being said, copying games to the SD or SSD is still the optimal strategy for performance. It’s a one-time process and better for random access. — Taki Udon (@takiudon.bsky.social) 2025-07-31T00:27:34.752ZPre-orders for the SuperStation One have sadly sold out as of the posting of this story, but it seems a restock will take place at a later date.
